VIA VIC - October Edition

Check out the latest editions to the VIA VIC playlist for the month of October!

By Always Live

October was an exciting time for new music in Victoria. Whether it was young local acts fresh off the stage from their ALWAYS LIVE Garage Band set or iconic heritage performers, there were plenty of brand new tracks coming out of the state this month and we've rounded up a few of our faves.

Left At The Avenue - Minibar
Indie-rock Melbourne outfit Left At The Avenue have released the track they believe 'signifies the true beginning' of their band and it's a very strong entry onto the scene. While they've been gigging and performing sets all around Melbourne, this latest addition to our VIA VIC playlist packs a punch. The lead vocals shine on this track, however the entire production allows all the elements of the song to have their moment, whether it's the heavy, rock-inspired guitar, the sprinkling of synths throughout or the emotionally charged bridge section that builds to a punchy final chorus.

ORPHIX - Teeth
We can't wait to see the energy ORPHIX bring to Meeniyan Town Hall when they open for Amyl and the Sniffers on their regional tour, but if this track is anything to go by, it'll be a must-see set. High impact drums, lead guitar lines that carry the song along and vocals reminiscent of that early 2000s punk sound. Honourable mention to the mid-song thirty-second drum breakdown and guitar vamp outro that both really take this track to the next level.

They Might Be Dead Frogs - Bury
If you missed They Might Be Dead Frogs rocking the stage at ALWAYS LIVE Garage Band in October, then this song is a great introduction to the punk grunge quartet. You'll find unapologetic lyrics, packed with attitude and the perfectly crafted soundscape to back it up. Another track with a breakdown worthy of highlighting, we'd love to be front row in a mosh pit to experience the way the song grows and builds as it goes on.

Peter Garrett - Innocence Parts 1 & 2
The first cut from an upcoming album, this latest release from Peter Garrett is a rolling, blues track. As is promised with the rest of the album, the song draws 'inspiration and sustenance from the living colours of Australia’s natural environment and the sights and sounds of modern Oz'. It's a sentiment that's become synonymous with Peter Garrett's music and is very clearly delivered with this new single.

Angie McMahon - Serotonin
We've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Angie McMahon's latest album, Light, Dark, Light Again. Serotonin sits halfway on the tracklist and is a cathartic ode to her own personal breakthroughs. Her breathy vocals work as their very own percussion section and flow through the entirety of the song to create a steady sound-bed for all the other elements of the track - delicate piano, anthemic and echoey drums and Angie's beloved lower register.

We've added these latest additions to our VIA VIC playlist which you can listen to below.
