VIA VIC - May Edition

The latest and greatest, brought to you by Victorian artists.

By Always Live

VIA VIC shares latest releases from local talent, right here in Victoria! Heavy rock, smooth RnB and everything in between, VIA VIC has you covered.

Check out the selections for the month of May, picked by the ALWAYS LIVE staff!

Queenie - Naked Again
Queenie is one to watch in 2023, and this song is the perfect example of why. When she's not throwing house party gigs and touring around the state, she's laying down classic riffs and soaring vocals for powerhouse tracks like Naked Again, her first single for 2023.

Willy J and The Bad Books - Bad Book Boogie
Willy J and The Bad Books dive head-first into this latest track. The Melbourne band describe themselves as the result of a hypothetical union between Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson and Janis Joplin and Bad Book Boogie does a stellar job satisfying that criteria. A chugging bass line and energetic drums pair together with guitar lines that hold the song down for Willy J to do his thing. So much energy and excitement packed into one track. We're fans.

Silver Yarns - Body Maintenance
Pulled from their first full length LP, Beside You, Silver Yarns is a fast-moving, churning track from Melbourne post-punk band Body Maintenance. The track simply does not stop and after playing all over the city in the lead up to the release plus an announcement of a UK/EU tour, we're hoping there's no slowing down for them.

Soli - Temporary Low
Silky smooth and full of soul, Soli has been weaving her RnB magic across Melbourne and the country for a minute now, and this new release is no different. She brings floating synths and effortless vocals to Temporary Low and we're sure fans of SZA, Ella Mai and Kehlani will feel spoilt by Soli's offerings.

Heartbreak Baby - Gretta Ray
Victoria's sweetheart, Gretta Ray has returned with arguably one of our favourite optimistically pop break-up songs ever. A detour from her well-loved indie tracks, Gretta slots into this new sound with ease and brings the songwriting and story-telling chops we've grown to love along with her.
